In the beginning Mom and Dad created me. And I was without siblings, and lonely; and sadness was upon the face of the family. And Mom and Dad said, Let there be a girl: and there was Violet. And Mom and Dad saw the girl, that it was good: and Mom and Dad added to the family a son. And Mom called the girl Violet, and the son Dad called Bill. And the evenings and the mornings were three years.
And Mom and Dad said, Let there be a child in the midst of the family, and let it divide the family from anger. And Mom and Dad made the child, and divided the anger which was under the family from the happiness which was above the family: and it was so. And Mom and Dad called the child Harmony. And the evenings and the mornings were five years.
And Mom said, Let the relatives and the ancestors be gathered together unto one place, and let the tears appear: and it was so. And Mom called Dad deceased; and the gathering together of the families called she bereaved: and Mom saw that she was alone.
And Mom said, Let the families bring forth bluegrass, the young yielding joy, and the old yielding memories of their father, whose death is so sudden, upon this day: and it was so. And the families brought forth bluegrass, and all yielding memories after their kind, and the young yielding joy, whose father was no longer, after his illness: and Mom saw that it was good.
And the evenings and the mornings were hard. And Mom said, Let there be love in the lives of my children to combine the pain with the joy; and let them have signs and seasons, and days, and years: And let my children be guides in the future to give help upon the earth: and it was so.
And Mom had two great truths; the greater truth, to love, and the lesser truth, to live: she lived the truths also. And Mom set them in the hearts of her children to give back to the earth, And they knew the day and the night, and fought for the light in the darkness: and Mom saw that it was good.
And the evenings and the mornings were many.
And Mom said, Let Jen spring forth and move to that new life, and may she fly to university in the open fields of Evansville. And Jen created great loans, owing every living creature that moveth, which the lawyers brought forth abundantly, after their manner, and worked for a living after her education: and Mom saw that it was good.
And Mom blessed Violet, saying, Be loved, and marry, and find a house in the 'burbs, and let Mayberries join the families.
And the first child and the second child were away.
And Mom said, Let my son go forth into technology after his father, engineers both, and thinkers, and best of their kind: and it was so.
And Mom bade the last of the children be of her own mind, and Harmony chose kids, and everyday teaching as her line: and Mom saw that it was good.
But too soon there came a harsh cry from the north that called to the whole family of the teacher. And the teacher, formed once of the dust of the ground, and birthed into this breath called life, once more became a soul.
And the children painted a wall eastward in Indy; and there they put the one whom they had loved.
And the loss of her child made Mom to grow pleasant in the mind, and to do good; the lost one always in the midst of her thoughts, and in the hearts of her family.
And a river went out of the hearts of the family to water the sister; and from thence they were parted, and were no more four.
And Harmony said unto the family, Why art thou bereaved? and why is thy countenance fallen? If there is more, shall we not meet again? and if there is no more, and we have had our day, remember in tears, and tears shall rule over you.
And all the days of Harmony were twenty-and one years: and she died.
Yet the family prevails upon the earth.
