"Man Does That Building Need a Defrag!"

Thursday

As I was saying, the latest plan was for me to drive directly to Union Station and pick up Sarabi and Milamber...

I get on the road in plenty of time, which is good since I make a number of stops along the way. Apparently I didn't get much sleep because I found myself dying to nap along the way.

Sarabi and Milamber live in St. Louis and were travelling into Chicago by train. This was the same as last year, and last year was an experience! The train was WAY late and I was WAY bored and... well... yeah... So this year I came prepared with crossword puzzles, books, food, water, Gameboy, etc.! Of course, that meant that I got there just ten minutes before the train arrived. As soon as I found the platform, they announced that the passengers were about to disembark. sigh. Well, that definitely made parking cheaper, but now I was embarassed at having brought all that junk with me.

For some reason, it took longer to get out of the station that it did to get in, but we finally managed to get to the tunnel and the parking garage. Of course, we then had to pay for the parking.

When I drove into the garage, there were signs everywhere reminding you to take you ticket with you and to pay on the first floor. That there were no attendants on duty. Fine fine fine, I waved them all off and went on my merry way. When Sarabi, Milamber and I got back to the car, we spent about a quarter of an hour driving in circles trying to find this mysterious place that would allow me to pay to get out. Finally I parked again and we walked back to the elevator to see if we could find an office to figure out what was going on. Upon entering the little room that housed the Elevators, we found them. Those lovely little pay-it-yourself vending machine things that allow you to pay your parking before you get to your car. Luckily we had parked on the first floor or we'd never have found the darned things. I actually like them, but it is a pain to try to make it to the gate before the time limit is up - they give you a lead time to get out. It was cool, though, cause a few weeks later, when MPoetess and I went to the Firefly Sneak Preview in Chicago, the theater had the same setup and I was all "oh ho! I know what I'm doing! This is normal for me!" PREEN!

Well, as usual with my driving, we made it out of the parking garage finally and then got lost trying to get from downtown Chicago to Rosemont, where the Hyatt O'Hare (and therefore ACEN) is located.

I actually could lay the blame on the fact that we were so happy to see each other, that half the time I was laughing or talking when I missed the street or exit I was looking for. But lying is a sin... or so I'm told.

But finally we made it to the right roads and made all the proper exits except the traditional last one (where we turn towards the McDonald's instead of the Hotel), and arrived at the Hyatt in time to make our reservations, with barely time to spare!
Well, okay, with no time to spare, but that's typical for ACEN...
